20160701_104358We are talking about mission statements in this episode and a mission statement is so valuable if used correctly. It will never serve it’s purpose if it’s just a box you check. It needs to define the core of the business, or perhaps the person if it’s a personal mission statement. There should be an overlap of a personal mission statement and the business mission statement. The core values should be similar especially for an extra small business.

A mission statement is why you exist – your reason for being that aren’t going tied to current circumstances.

Here are a few of my favorite lines from Glenn during this episode:

  • “A well written purpose statement or mission statement can inspire commitment and dedication”
  • “A mission statement isn’t related to the business conditions at the time”
  • “Your values are whats in your DNA – it’s going to direct how you go about your business”

A few topics we discuss:

  • Informing behavior
  • Inspiring┬ácommitment
  • Defining a culture

Vision Statement: What we will look like in 5 years which is revisited every year and can change on circumstances, this vision informs your strategy. What do I think my business will be. The economy is changing technology is constantly changing, how is you business going to react to these.
Mission Statement: This is who we are this is why exist.
